Terms of Use
The short version
- One key activates Face In on one Mac. You can move it to another Mac.
- Face In is a convenience, not extra security. A good photo or video of you, or someone who looks a lot like you, may unlock your Mac.
- Keep your Mac password strong and FileVault turned on. Face In does not replace them.
- Paddle.com sells the app on our behalf and handles payment and refunds.
- Nothing here takes away rights that consumer law gives you.
1. Who we are
Face In is developed by [[PREENCHER: razão social ou nome completo do responsável]], [[PREENCHER: CNPJ]], [[PREENCHER: endereço completo]] ("we", "us"). These terms apply to the Face In app for macOS and to this website. By buying, installing or using Face In you agree to them.
2. Buying
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
When you buy, you also accept the Paddle Buyer Terms. Paddle charges you, calculates and collects the sales tax or VAT of your country, and sends the receipt. After the payment is approved we email you your license key and the download link.
The features included in each plan are the ones described on this site at the moment of your purchase.
3. Your license
We give you a personal, non exclusive, non transferable license to install and use Face In on one Mac per license key. You are buying a license to use the software, not the software itself.
The license has no expiry date for the version you bought. [[PREENCHER: regra de atualizações: vitalício só para a versão principal comprada (ex.: 1.x) ou todas as versões futuras]]
You can use Face In on a Mac you own or are allowed to control. Unlocking a Mac that belongs to someone else requires that person's permission.
4. Activation and moving to another Mac
- Activation needs an internet connection once. The app sends your key and a SHA-256 hash of your Mac's hardware identifier (never the identifier itself) to our server. The same happens when you deactivate.
- The app does not check the license periodically. Outside activation and deactivation, it does not connect to the internet.
- To move to another Mac, deactivate the key in the app on the old Mac, then activate it on the new one. If you no longer have the old Mac, write to us and we release the key.
- If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the key is revoked. A revoked key can no longer be activated, and the license to use it ends.
5. What you may not do
- Share, sell, rent or publish your license key, or use one key on more than one Mac at the same time.
- Bypass, disable or tamper with the license check, including by reverse engineering, decompiling or modifying the app for that purpose, except where the law expressly allows it.
- Redistribute the app or its files.
- Use Face In to access a Mac, or data, without the owner's permission.
6. Requirements and permissions
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, and a working camera (built in or connected).
- Face In asks for Camera access (to see your face) and Accessibility access (to type your Mac password into the lock screen for you). Without them, it cannot unlock.
- To unlock, Face In stores your Mac password on your Mac, encrypted (AES-GCM 256). The encryption key lives in your Mac's Keychain, protected by Touch ID or your password, and is not synced with iCloud.
- Face In uses private Apple interfaces for part of its work (for example, showing its animation over the lock screen). Apple does not support them, and a macOS update may break a feature. We work to fix these cases, but we cannot promise that every feature will work on every future macOS version, or by a given date.
7. Security limits (please read)
Face In is a convenience, not an extra layer of security. A regular Mac camera sees a flat image, unlike the 3D sensor of an iPhone.
- A good quality photo or video of you, or a person who looks very much like you, may unlock your Mac.
- Face In does not replace your Mac password or FileVault. After a restart, macOS asks for your password as usual.
- Keep FileVault turned on and use a strong Mac password.
- If people who could get photos or videos of you also have physical access to your Mac, and that worries you, do not use Face In.
8. Third party components
- Face recognition uses a model from the InsightFace project (ArcFace). [[PREENCHER: situação da licença comercial do modelo]]
- SkyLightWindow, by Lakr233, under the MIT license.
Each component remains under its own license, and those licenses prevail for that component.
9. Warranty
To the extent permitted by law, Face In is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that it will recognize you every time, work without interruption, or keep working with future versions of macOS or with every camera.
This does not limit the rights that consumer law gives you, such as the right to a product that matches its description and to remedies for defects (for example, under the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code or the consumer law of your country). Where the law does not allow a warranty to be excluded, it is not excluded.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law:
- We are not responsible for access to your Mac by someone using a photo, a video or a resemblance to you, because this limit is part of how the product works and is disclosed above.
- We are not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost profits or lost data, arising from the use of or inability to use Face In.
- Our total liability related to Face In is limited to the amount you paid for your license.
None of this limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, for death or personal injury, or under mandatory consumer protection rules.
11. End of the license
You can stop using Face In at any time. The license ends if you seriously breach these terms (for example, by sharing or reselling the key) or if the purchase is refunded or charged back. When it ends, you must stop using the app. Sections 7, 9, 10 and 13 remain in effect.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version is published on this page with its date. Important changes are announced on the site. A change never reduces, after the fact, the license you already bought.
13. Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. If you are a consumer, you keep the protections of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts of your home. For consumers in Brazil, the court of the consumer's domicile applies. In other cases, the courts of [[PREENCHER: foro: sugestão, comarca do domicílio do responsável]] have jurisdiction.

Language
This page exists in English and in Brazilian Portuguese. If the two versions differ, the version in your own language prevails when the law of your country requires it. In every other case the Portuguese version prevails. [[PREENCHER: confirmar: em conflito, prevalece a versão em português]]
